Oral Health Tips in Isolation

Welcome to our first Isolation blog post! As we navigate through the tough times of COVID-19 Bald Hills Dental is committed to providing safe dental care and services to all our patients. Many of us across Queensland are doing our part in following the strict social distancing guidelines by remaining at home to do our usual daily activities like working or home schooling. So now is the time to make sure you maintain a high level of oral hygiene since preventative dental care options are so limited across Australia during this challenging time. We thought we would take this opportunity to discuss some ways to maintain the health of your teeth and gums from home until we are able to see you all again for your routine dental and preventative treatments.

The standard recommendation is no less than what it was prior to the virus. Please be sure to brush your teeth at minimum 2 times a day and flossing a minimum of twice a week. This is crucial for decreasing the potential effects of bacteria and plaque that are responsible for cavities and gum disease. For Brushing we recommend the modified bass technique it helps to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy without causing damage . The recommended tooth brush for this technique is soft to medium brush. Please click here for an attached video demonstrating how to brush effectively.

Remember the wrong flossing technique can cause more harm than benefit especially to your gums. Please watch the attached video demonstrating the proper use of dental floss.

If you have been sick during this period, ensure you throw away your toothbrush and replace it with a new one. We recommend you replace your tooth brush every 3 months or after any viral or bacterial infections to ensure long term happier healthier you!

Good oral care should be complemented by a good diet and hydration. Please drink plenty of water throughout the day and try limiting the consumption of food with a high sugar and starch content. It is a good thing to note to be very careful or hard foods that can potentially damage a tooth or filling.

Here at Bald Hills Dental we believe good teeth and gum health can lessen the strain on the body’s immune system allowing it to focus on protecting you from other problems if they happen to arise. During this challenging period of limited access to routine dental care, we urge you to take precautions with your oral health as much as your general health in order to stay in tip-top shape.

If you feel you or someone you know is in need of some dental care during these tough times or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Bald hills dental team on 3261 5551.
